The co-conductorship of Eugen Jochum and Bernard Haitink at the Amsterdam Concertgebouworkest seems to have been a relation of mutual respect and friendship. After the death of the respected Eduard van Beinum, the close cooperation of these two men started more or less immediately. It brought Conductors and Orchestra to universally high rated performances as well as leaded to several succesfull concert-tours to the USA, UK, Germany and Japan.

The part of the recorded legacy of Eugen Jochum dating from this period contains some specialities: a very high rated Mahler "Das Lied von der Erde" and a virtuoso Schumann Symphony 4.
