Even before the official appointment of Eugen Jochum and Bernard Haitink as Principal Conductor is effectuated, the tour to the USA starts. In the days from April 10, 1961 to June 4, 1961, a total of 43 concerts in 56 days (8 weeks) is given, of which 28 concerts are conducted by Eugen Jochum.
The repertoire conducted by Eugen Jochum was:
Henk Badings | Largo & Allegro |
L. v. Beethoven | Ouverture Egmont |
L. v. Beethoven | Ouverture Leonore III |
L. von Beethoven | Symphony nr. 3 |
J. Brahms | Symphony nr. 1 |
A. Bruckner | Symphony nr. 4 |
Marius Flothuis | Symphonische Muziek |
W. A. Mozart | Eine kleine Nachtmusik |
F. P. Schubert | Symphony nr. 8 |
R. Strauß | Don Juan opus 20 |
R. Strauß | Till Eulenspiegel opus 28 |
C. M. von Weber | Ouverture "Der Freischütz" |
Lots of performances and compositions, but it seems there is also time for other occupations.... (see below).
Back from the USA, a concert performance is given in the new Amsterdam Rai (an oversized exhibition hall, see below) on june 16, 1961 which is attended by some 9000 people. This concert is live-broadcasted by the AVRO. Through sheer coincidence, part of this concert (the performance of R. Strauß' Till Eulenspiegel) has survived on an old reel-tape recording of the live broadcasting, which is present (in digitized form) in my collection.
